The Shippensburg University Community Orchestra, under the direction of Ryan Kozak, presents an inspiring program where Old World tradition meets New World spirit. This thoughtfully curated concert features two beloved and uplifting masterworks from the classical canon, celebrating rich European heritage alongside the bold promise of unchartered horizons.
Bedřich Smetana’s symphonic poem The Moldau paints a vivid musical portrait of life along the majestic Czech river. It begins with shimmering woodwinds that ripple like sunlight on water, gradually unfolding into sweeping, lyrical themes that evoke castles, countryside, and the storied towns of Central Europe.
Antonín Dvořák’s beloved Symphony No. 9, “From the New World,” looks westward with expansive melodies and rich thematic development reflecting the beauty and promise of an emerging land, building toward a triumphant finale that captures the bold, heroic spirit of the New World.
